Section III
Finding a Physician

Some people have been told this condition was all in their head, when they know this is not the case.  But there are some conditions that are treated by psychiatrists that are physical and not emotional in nature.  Psychiatrists can treat Adult ADD or Seasonal Affecitve Disorder.  These are physical conditions that can be responsible for fatigue and its side effects.

Allergists can be very useful in treating allergies that might be contributing to fatigue.

Some of the treatments and condition I mention on these pages are very controversial among physicians. Despite over 20 years of use, the food allergy blood test I mention is still controversial.  The adrenal test is used by many doctors, but not in the way that I have described.  Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome is a very controversial diagnosis among physicians, and the physician that does diagnose it is likely to face considerable flak from his/her peers.

It is best to be treated by an MD or an Osteopath (DO).  In all states they are licensed to order tests and prescribe drugs.  In a few states, Naturopaths and other practitioners can do these things.

Many people are treated by chiropractors and alternative practitioners.  In most states, these practitioners cannot order the necessary tests or prescribe the necessary drugs.  In my opinion, such treatment is inadequate.  Most responsible alternative practitioners understand this. I found my own doctor through my chiropractor.

There are a number of resources which you may find useful for locating MDs or DOs:

The Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome Site

This site has a list of physicians that treat the syndrome.  They may also treat other fatigue related problems.

The American College for Advancement in Medicine

This organization has a web-site that lists many alternative physicians. To find a doctor, go to the site and look for MDs and DOs in your area.

I tend to prefer those who have the letters "YS" (yeast syndrome) next to their names.  This means they treat Candida.  I've found that such doctors often treat other things related to chronic fatigue.

The American Association of Naturopath Physicians

Naturopathic doctor emphasize holistic approaches to health problems.  They are currently licensed in 12 states.  The group's web-site can help you find one in your area.

Dr. St. Amand's Site

Dr. Amand's site has a list of doctors who use guaifenesin to treat CFS and fibromyalgia.  Many of these doctors also use other treatments.

The International Health Foundation

The president of this organization and author of "The Yeast Connection", Dr. William Crook maintains a list of doctors who treat the condition.  You may contact Dr. Crook for a referral at:

The International Health Foundation
P.O. Box 3494
Jackson, TN 38303

or call:

Voice: 901-660-7090 (Dr. Crook only answers this line on Tuesdays  from 1:15 to 2:15.)

Fax: 901-423-5402

The Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab

The Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab at one time gave referrals to physicians that use their tests.  The page is no longer there, so it is questionable whether they still do this.
